Our Story

West Cambs GP Federation (WCF) was established in 2016 to provide support to GPs across Fenland and Huntingdonshire in the ways they need it most.

We work for local GPs, offering a range of services that make gaining access to healthcare more convenient and simple for everyone. We are proud to now work with 22 member practices supporting them with direct service delivery and also work with the local hospitals to provide accessible, community-based healthcare. WCF is a Community Interest Company which means all profits are reinvested in patient care.

WCF acts to alleviate the pressures on hard pressed practices to enable GPs to focus on their patients. We do this through a range of services including providing additional capacity through Extended Access offering out of hours appointments. We have already successfully provided over 60,000 additional appointments in the last three years.

We continue to work closely with our member practices to ensure that the services we deliver make a meaningful difference to them and their patients. When it was identified that Health Care Assistants could provide more support to practices we expanded the team to meet ongoing needs. We also help practices grow their workforce by recruiting and hosting extra roles.

By working with the Integrated Care System (formerly the CCG) we are able to respond to emerging and immediate needs such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Faced with a monumental task, WCF stepped in to assist GPs with an innovative solution. A brand new vaccination call centre was rapidly provided with a dedicated team booking over 20,000 patient appointments, rolling out the vaccination programme at speed across the local area.

As well as GPs we also work closely with a range of charities and community organisations to enable access to their services and we continue to work with the other Federations in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough on service development.

We set out to deliver excellent services so that commissioners could rely on us to provide the right support to member practices and the wider healthcare system.

Our latest Care Quality Commission rating (Good) proves we have made great strides forward and are making a real difference locally by providing patient care at the standard and quality it needs to be. Those working with us can be reassured that their investment is making a positive difference to local health care services and patients can reap the benefits of a supportive system that’s there when they need it.
